I feel like I’ve let my inner film nerd down by not realising it until seeing this Twitter prompt from the Taste of Cinema account: Because it one hundred percent belongs there. But the road movie? For some reason, I’ve never placed it there. Sublime meditations on love and the human condition that take place mostly over extended, naturalistic conversations? Damn right! They all belong on the shelf of favourites. Films that take place over the course of one night? Oh yeah. For whatever reason, whenever considering my favourite genre or mini-genre of film, I’ve never really jumped to ‘road movie’ as an answer.
